Planzer – LOXO (dynamic microhub): September 2024
Dynamic Micro-Hubs for the Next Era of Urban Logistics
On September 19, 2024, Planzer and LOXO launched their joint project “Dynamic Micro-Hub”, a groundbreaking pilot in Bern designed to transform last-mile delivery through autonomous technology. The collaboration combines Planzer’s expertise as the largest private parcel delivery company in Switzerland with LOXO’s autonomous driving innovation to address the growing need for more sustainable and efficient urban logistics.
At the heart of the project is the dynamic micro-hub “Mathilde”, an autonomous vehicle powered by LOXO’s Digital Driver™ software, navigating the streets of Bern without a human driver. Over the course of the two-year pilot, Mathilde is set to operate multiple daily routes, transporting parcels across a 67-kilometer network to 14 strategically located exchange points. From there, shipments are transferred to smaller electric vehicles for the final leg of delivery.
The project demonstrates a new approach to urban logistics by combining autonomous transport, micro-hub infrastructure, and electric last-mile distribution. In doing so, it helps reduce emissions while creating the foundation for a scalable, data-driven logistics model.
